What length should I keep the candle wick?
Keep your wick between 1/8" and 1/4". If your candle flame is giving off black smoke that is a good indication the wick is too long.
How should I extinguish the candle flame?
Dip the wick into the melted pool of wax and straighten the wick out again. This allows you to put out the flame and not release any smoke!
How long should I let my candle burn each time I light it?
A general rule of thumb is an hour per inch of diameter. An example would be a 3" diameter pillar you would let burn for 3 hours and a 4" diameter jar candle you would let burn for 4 hours.
How many total hours of burn time can I expect to get?
There are a lot of factors that affect burn time. Keeping a wick trimmed is one of the best ways to prolong the life of a candle. Each product has a picture or description of estimated burn times.
Why is one side of my candle melting more than the other?
There are a number of reasons this may be happening. First, check your wick. Is it too long or bent off to one side? If so, extinguish the flame (see above), make adjustments, and re-light. Second, is the candle in a drafty location or is there a fan on? If moving the candle isn't an option, you can rotate the candle occasionally to help balance the candle out.
Should I set a candle on something?
Yes, always. Make sure whatever you set the candle on is not flammable.
How do I avoid getting soot on the ceiling and walls?
Buy a good candle! Cheap candles contain low-grade wax which has the potential to become a sooty mess. Marley Candles only uses premium materials. Keep your wick trimmed and soot won't be an issue.
Why is my pillar tunneling?
There are many factors which affect how a candle burns.
Jars: When you first light a jar candle, you should allow the wax pool to reach the edge of the jar. If you blow it out prematurely, it can cause the candle to start tunneling.
Pillars: Same as above but Marley wicks are designed not to burn to the edge of the pillar so the wax does not spill out.
Can I refill my candle?
Only certain candles can be refilled. If they are, it will be mentioned in the product description.
What's the difference between soy and paraffin wax?
Soy wax is made from soybeans. However, to allow the fragrance to disperse throughout a room, some natural oils are added to the wax mixture.
Paraffin wax has many different grades and qualities. However, Marley Candles has always used premium paraffin wax which is food grade and safe to burn. Paraffin wax also provides excellent fragrance throw.
